P
rotecting the environment and promoting sustainability are pressing collective tasks and challenges that concern society as a whole. The Paris Climate Summit of 2015 took a decisive step forward by reaching a historic agreement on the need to determine measures to achieve a sustainable low-carbon future. The European Union seized the baton in December of 2020 when it proposed reducing CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030, an indispensable step to achieve climate neutrality on the continent by 2050.
The Mercedes-Benz Group and, with it, the Vitoria factory, have integrated environmental protection into their cultures. In accordance with this commitment, the Vitoria factory has set more ambitious green production targets for 2030 than those adopted within the EU, to reduce energy, waste and water consumption by approximately one quarter compared to 2014. All this is being done with a view to completely CO2-free production by 2039. These are challenges that reflect the Mercedes-Benz factory in Vitoria-Gasteiz's commitment to sustainability, the environment, and improving the quality of life in the geographical and social environment in which it is located.
